Online Class Assessment

Google Docs is a wonderful, free tool set.  It has applications that, for most people, could replace Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  Unlike the Microsoft Office suite we are all most used to, Google Docs is available from any computer with an Internet connection.  Furthermore, all of the documents, spreadsheets, and presentations you create using Google Docs is stored online for free.

One of the lesser known features of Docs is the Forms feature.  This tool allows you to create easy to use forms that could be used as tests or surveys.

From a practical standpoint, you would take the students to the computer lab, have them log into the computer, and provide them with a link to your Google Form.  They could then complete the form and you'd be able to view the results online.

This worked great for the bullying survey I administered as part of the anti-bullying curriculum.  However, if the students were to take a test using the form, it would have been tedious to grade...until now.

Flubaroo is a tool that you can use in conjunction with Google Forms to create tests that are graded for you.  You create the test using Google Forms and then complete the test yourself with your answers becoming the answer key.  When students complete the test, it will be graded for you with the results of each student's test recorded in a spreadsheet.
